Analysis
1. What
is Authentic Assessment?
AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT is the use of
assessment methods that simulate true-to –life situations. This could be
objective tests that reflect real life situations or alternative methods that
are parallel to what we experience in real life. In order to evaluate exactly
what an individual has learned, it is necessary to develop an assessment method
that examines his/her collective abilities. Such an assessment procedure is
called authentic assessment. In general, this gives students situations that
occur in the real world which require them to apply their relevant skills and
knowledge.
AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT is designed to be
criterion-referenced rather than norm-referenced. Such evaluation identifies
strengths and weaknesses, but does not compare or rank students.
2.
How was authentic assessment used? Was
it used to measure learning through the product?
v SELF-ASSESSMENT---- The teacher poses question to determine if the students understood the
topic being presented and to extend or generate ideas from them.
COMMENT: the teacher should recognize the students after they have recited.
v
PORTFOLIO------ The teacher assesses
students when it is inappropriate or difficult to test students’ understanding or knowledge with pen-and-paper test.
COMMENT: the teacher should present the topic clearly and specifically.
v
PERFORMANCE-BASED----- Used by the teacher before
and after instruction. It is commonly used procedure for gathering formal
evidence about student learning, specifically in memory, recall and
comprehension.
COMMENT: the teacher should monitor the students during the exam to avoid
unnecessary movements.
Therefore,
authentic assessment is not only used to measure product because authentic
assessment measures both process and product. Process and product working together
or dependent to each other. Without the process we cannot do the best product
and without the product we can’t do process.

Reflection
What
are your insights and feelings about the use of authentic assessment?
r My
insight and feelings about these new trends in the classroom assessment is
more challenging than the traditional assessment. Using this new classroom
assessment, teachers could arouse the interest of students and they could
offer more fun in the classroom through the use of alternative or authentic
assessment which brings excitement for the students. Through this new trend
in the classroom setting, the teacher can now attain more active class
participation and teacher-student collaboration will also be obtained.
Describe
how the teacher used the authentic assessment?
v ORAL
RECITATION-----The teacher
gathers information from students’ own reflection about the topic that leads
them to greater awareness and understanding of what they have learned.
COMMENT: the teacher should give specific ideas for students to reflect on it
expressively.
v CLASSROOM
PRESENTATION----The teacher
provides regular feedback to students regarding their performance,
accomplishments, capabilities, strengths, weaknesses and progress over
specified time.
COMMENT: the teacher should provide regular feedback.
v PEN-and-PAPER-----The teacher observes a student or group of students
performing a specific task. Students demonstrate a skill or proficiencies by
asking them to create, produce and perform.
COMMENT: should assign level of proficiency based on the performance of
students.
How
did you feel about the teacher’s experience in the use of authentic
assessment?
r I
feel more confident because there are different techniques and strategies in
assessing students’ performance this kind of assessment is very useful,
reliable and appropriate in conducting relevant activities in the classroom.
Authentic assessment is best to use because it gives students great
challenges which could help them do their best and improve their
achievements.
What
could be the gains of the students and teachers in using authentic
assessment?
r One
of the benefits of using this kind of assessment is gaining the
smooth-interpersonal relationship among the students and the teacher
himself/herself. They strengthen and establish good rapport from each other.
There is good and smooth flow of conversation using this assessment strategy.
There is also active participation and collaboration when it comes to
classroom management.
|
Which part of the teacher’s use of authentic
assessment do you feel like improving or revising?
r I
feel like improving or revising in the part of the evaluation process which the
teacher assesses students’ learning performance using alternative strategies
and alternative activities relevant to the subject. Students in response show
and do their best in their activities conducted by the teacher.
